• Peace Building and Promoting Democracy
Since 2002 Ilige League started its journey with Peace Building. It has developed and coordinated several conferences to promote democracy and building peace especially between different influential groups coming from different sects and political views.
In its internal policies and procedures Ilige League has elections every two years, and the president of the league can remain for two consecutive elections then has to pass his or her responsibility to someone else.
• Youth Empowerment
Believing that youth are at the heart of any fundamental change or development. Ilige League has developed several programs to meet youth needs and to encourage them to follow their believes in a free way without any oppression from anyone. Ilige League organize bi-monthly trainings and yearly camp for the youth with yearly specific objectives for the outcome based on a researched need.
• Environment, Biodiversity and Tourism
Since 2005, Ilige League has managed to plant more than 350 Cedar tree directly next to Ilige monastery in Mayfouq, Jbeil district. This replanted valley of cedars tree attracts more than 10,000 visitors yearly. In 2020, We developed the concept to make it more appealing for eco-tourism, we developed two hiking trails of 6 km each matching all levels of fitness.
• Political Reconciliation
Believing that political reconciliation especially between parties that witnessed war against each other’s is a crucial and obligatory path towards real peace building. Ilige League initiated reconciliations between parties that fought during the Lebanese war, within the project “Purifying Memory the Way to Peace”, which was initiated in 2010. Below are some of the projects implemented by Ilige league:
– Reconciliation and forgiveness between officers of the Lebanese army when it was under the command of General Aoun and officers of the Lebanese Forces who faced each other in the 1990 war. Under the auspices of the Maronite Patriarch and the leadership of the Lebanese Army.
– Organized open discussion meetings between ex-fighters from the Lebanese Christian resistance and the Palestinian forces that participated in the Lebanese war, and attending conferences for Palestinian/Lebanese youth.
– Frank meetings with officials of the Communist Party (Jamoul forces) and organized mutual visits to different regions
– Participated in meetings and cooperation with the “Warriors for Peace” association.
– Organizing seminars on purifying memory and reconciliation in cooperation with the Lebanon Mission Movement in a number of Lebanese regions
